C'est l'amour!

Translation: It is Love!

Vanishing Elephant Spring/Autumn '11

This season Sydney-based label Vanishing Elephant is in love. It's a pretty severe case of infatuation, too: the sort that makes one meet parents, rub bunions, and record somebody else's "cute" laughter-snorts so that they can be made in to a mobile phone ringtone.

In between PDAs, the menswear designers have also been investigating The Colour Of Love. They say that squiggly head-over-heels feeling is comprised of three stages: new love, blossoming romance, and desire attained. This has been respectively translated in to pastel lighthearted hues, casually individualistic tailoring, and relaxed chinos that'll cuddle your soul through those cold wintery nights.

Best bits resulting from this philosophical approach are the spotty red shorts, preppy shirts, and cord-drawn detailing. It's nothing revolutionary but, overall, the whole lookbook is a lovely extension of their last collection. We'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment... especially if these hopeless Romeos continue working on the evolution of romanticism.

In fact, we'd like to see how the label translates those not-so-sexy next stages of love in to clothing. We reckon "letting oneself go" could mean fat pants and sweats, "cheating scumbag" a white men's shirt with lipstick smudges, and "the seeds of regret" a pair of leggings worn as pants.

Peace x
